The swivel lens enables the 2 housing halves of the Contax U4R to turn up by 240° relative to each other, this makes it possible to take images from unusual perspectives. A titanium industrial joint developed specially to withstand high loads holds the 2 camera halves together. The interaction of the Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with the CCD chip delivers impressive performance with a resolution 4 effective megapixels. A zoom lens developed specially for the slim camera format guarantees high-fidelity colour rendition. Thanks to the T* multicoating the images show scarcely any lost of contrast. The maximum aperture over the entire zoom range with focal lengths from 5.8 to 17.4 mm ( equivalent to 38mm to 115mm in 35mm format.) The zoom enlarges subjects 3 times optically and 6 times digitally. The 2 inch monitor makes it easy to frame a subject. This camera came in three different colours.
