The Minolta / Sony AF Reflex 500mm lens is the only production mirror lens designed to auto focus with an SLR camera. A very under estimated lens. There are mirror ( catadioptric) lenses that will mount most of the recent cameras like Nikon or canon but they are non auto focus. Only the Minolta AF reflex 500 can have its focus controlled by the AF motor in conjunction with TTL autofocus censoring. In terms of the Minolta AF and subsequent Sony a SLR systems , this lens is an anomaly being the only lens guaranteed to autofocus at f/8. The mirror design does not utilize aperture blades and thus the aperture of the lens is fixed at f/8. Exposure mainly controlled by the shutter speed, film/ or sensor sensitivity or rear mounted ND filter.
It was produced from 1989 to 2010 and mounts Minolta A mount and Sony A mounts cameras.
