If there is a lens that a full frame system is not complete without it is the 50mm F1.8 lens. This lens features a simple optical design which makes it quite good and affordable, compact and light weighted , but very sharp when stooped down. The lens has no internal AF motor and relies on a slotted drive screw operated from the cameras. So AF is not available on the motor-free entry level Nikon DSLR’s . As a result of the screw drive, AF operation will generate a moderate degree of noise. The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem.
